Manchester United welcome Aston Villa to Old Trafford in the FA Cup third round on Monday
The two Premier League sides have endured contrasting fortunes in this competition in recent years.
United are unbeaten in their last 11 ties on home soil – winning 10 – while Villa have suffered five successive exits at this stage.
For both managers, it will also be their first taste of the FA Cup from the dugout.
Ralf Rangnick has fond memories of cup competitions, having guided Schalke to DFB-Pokal glory and the Champions League semi-finals in 2011. The 63-year-old suffered his first defeat in temporary charge when the Red Devils went down 1-0 to Wolves last time out.
Steven Gerrard twice won this competition as a player with Liverpool in 2001 and 2006; captaining the Reds and leading by example with an inspirational performance in the latter.
He would love to get one over on his former rivals at Old Trafford, but will arrive there with a Villa side that has lost three of their last four games.
