Liverpool and Villarreal face off at Anfield for the opening leg of their Champions League semi-final tie Live here on Kilamiti.
Liverpool beat Benfica 6-4 on aggregate in the quarter-finals. After earning a 3-1 victory in the first leg, they played out a 3-3 draw in the return match at home.
As for Villarreal they eliminated Bayern Munich 2-1 on aggregate in the quarter-finals. Following a 1-0 victory in the first leg at home, they secured a 1-1 draw in the second leg.
Both clubs have met just twice before in European competition, with both sides winning their home leg of the 2015/16 Europa League semi-finals, when Liverpool would go on to progress to the final against Unai Emery’s Sevilla.
Heading into this first semi-final showdown Jurgen Klopp has a full clean bill of health. He comes into this fixture with a full squad available to him. Klopp’s major decision will be who lines up in Liverpool’s front three with Mohamed Salah a certain starter. The forward is their leading scorer with eight goals, which is the fourth highest among the competition’s top scorers in 2021/22, two of which have been the tone-setting first of the match. Diogo Jota and Sadio Mane are expected to join him with impressive new recruit Luis Diaz starting on the bench. Ibrahima Konate is hoping to start a third consecutive Champions League game alongside Virgil van Dijk in Liverpool’s defence.
